A Mike Phillips Review

“These Moments” captures personal tragedy, adversity, and accomplishment through finely crafted vignettes offering a glimpse into the Irish-American male experience during 20th and early 21st century America. These intimate tales zig-zag from Curran’s working-class childhood in a New York City borough in the late 50’s, to a life-altering migration to the Oregon coast in the 90’s to a reclamation of his Irish roots. Stories are sad, relatable, amusing, existential and inspiring. At times, its entries recount common experiences shared by many, but even the most approachable shorts provide a satiating glance into the lived experience and social norms of a different era.
