“These Moments by Daniel Curran is a book that is so deliberately written that, as a reader, you can’t help but reflect on your own life and what little, big, and seemingly irrelevant moments have shaped you into who you are today. In a world where the flashiest, newest things are seen as the prizes […]

I believe in ghosts. I have a few I speak with often. My late brother Phil is one of them. He comes to me and through me. We grew up as a “package deal”. When you got one, you got us both. 15 months apart in age, Irish twins. We gave lip to some. Woodside, […]

When I finished reading These Moments, I felt like I had spent an hour chatting with someone who had lived a life very different from mine. Daniel Curran grew up with brothers. I grew up with sisters. He lived in a big city. I lived in a small one. He was raised a Catholic, and […]

The first thing that touched my heart about These Moments by Daniel Curran was the dedication to his mother. As a mom of two boys myself, what greater gift than to be validated by your son for all you have done? Throughout the book, this validation continues through vignettes about their relationship and her strength […]
“These Moments” captures personal tragedy, adversity, and accomplishment through finely crafted vignettes offering a glimpse into the Irish-American male experience during 20th and early 21st century America. These intimate tales zig-zag from Curran’s working-class childhood in a New York City borough in the late 50’s, to a life-altering migration to the Oregon coast in the […]
U2: UV The Sphere It is now the most incredible show on earth. The hype is real. I stood in The Sphere line, approximately two blocks long, pacing in place nervously. The Sphere was lit with an astonishing display of optics. I could only wonder what was on the inside awaiting me and approximately 18,000 […]

Enjoyable, inspiring, reflective. Those are the words that come to mind after reading These Moments. It was David Sedaris- like in that much of the content draws from Mr. Curran’s family and how he was brought up. Being able to find the humor, but also the flaws in one’s family is what makes this book […]
What a refreshing read. Daniel’s growing up years and his life were drastically different than mine although we are pretty much the same age. He is an excellent writer. I grew up in the quiet countryside in Oregon. Many of his years were in New York City. Very much a different environment. Daniel brought his […]

What a nice read! These Moments by Daniel J. Curran felt like sharing a trip into the past for this East Coaster. I enjoyed each vignette and was surprised by so many long-forgotten memories of my own that came to life again. It almost felt like a conversation. I commend the bravery it took to […]
